I mentor coaches who want to become more confident in the work they do. Whether you are new to coaching, coach a club group or work with young or high-performance athletes, you get a professional sparring partner who has faced the same choices himself.
Background
In the Norwegian Triathlon Federation I educated coaches, developed young athletes towards national-team level and advised coaches working with high-performance athletes. I hold a master’s degree in sports science from the Norwegian School of Sport Sciences. That experience is what I bring into the mentoring.
I believe in simple, solid principles: individualisation, control of intensity and continuity over time. I do not jump on new trends without first assessing what they are really worth, and that judgement is what I want to help you build. The goal is not for you to coach your athletes the way I would, but for you to understand why you do what you do and make good decisions on your own.
What we can work on
We start from the athletes you coach and the challenges you face. These topics come up often.
How to build a season from the main goals and races, distribute the load across the year and adapt the plan when the athlete’s everyday life changes.
How to think several years ahead, build tolerance step by step and avoid sacrificing development for short-term form.
How to put your own philosophy into words, hold on to what works and judge new methods by what they actually deliver.
What happens in the body at different intensities, how to test and set zones such as easy (I1), LT1, LT2 and VO2max, and how to adjust them from training data.
How to dose training for young athletes, protect motivation and enjoyment, and lay the foundation for a long sporting career.
How to follow up athletes who aim high, with close dialogue, clear priorities and training where all the work points towards the goal.
How we can work
A 60-minute online meeting about one or more specific questions. Feel free to send a plan, a season outline or a problem in advance, so we spend the time on solutions. You book it directly in the booking calendar.
A programme with regular meetings over several months, where we follow your athletes and your plans over time and adjust along the way. We agree on content, frequency and price based on what you need.
The mentoring suits new and developing coaches in triathlon and other endurance sports, club coaches with a group to plan for, and coaches who work with young or high-performance athletes.
You do not need a big problem to get in touch. Many coaches get the most out of a professional conversation before an important decision, or from having an experienced coach look over a plan they have already made.
